I first interviewed John about a year and a half ago,. He had a $20 million portfolio. It’s now stands at $40 million!
Now, the questions which I (MS) asked him and his (JS) answers.
MS. Was there a particular teacher who influenced you?
JS. It was a group of teachers. I was taking about 200 hours of CE annually for my first decade after graduating. L. D. Pankey, Peter Dawson, Bill Strupp and Mike Schuster influenced me.
MS. What was the best advice you were ever given?
JS. Best advice came from Mike Schuster and that was to be debt-free as soon as possible.
MS. What advice would you give your younger self?
JS. Live below your means, drastically.
MS. What is the hardest lesson you have had to learn throughout your career?
JS. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
MS.Were there any obstacles that you overcame, and how?
JS. I bought into an IPO and quickly lost $300,000. I recovered from that loss fairly soon by investing properly.
MS. If you could change one thing about health care today, what would it be?
JS. I would like to see government funded health care programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Veterans Health Administration. include dentistry.
